POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is in the St. Augustine Field Office. This is a full-time position that provides support to squad in the field office by initiating or assuming leadership in researching the sophisticated or complex persons, organizations, businesses, and other entities involved in criminal activity to determine the structure and scope of criminal operations. The position also requires excellent facilitation and customer service skills.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Conducting detailed research and analysis of confidential intelligence and investigative information relating to law enforcement operations and programs and/or performing as lead analyst on specialized complex analytical projects or criminal investigations;
  • Performing as senior analyst and directly supports and assists special agents in the compilation and analysis of confidential information in highly sophisticated and complex organized criminal investigations, and recommends specific investigative directions based upon such information;
  • Independently conducting detailed research of criminal investigations and documents relating to organized crime, terrorism, and professional criminals;
  • Preparing oral briefings, written reports, and recommendations in the form of intelligence assessments and detailed factual reports used by agency management and field supervisors to evaluate investigative priorities and case development;
  • Coordinating inter-state and intra-state information pertaining to criminal activity and criminal movement, and exercises independent judgment to ensure that accurate and reliable information is disseminated;
  • Assembling and arranging documents for trial purposes and prepares a variety of related reports, graphs, charts and exhibits and otherwise assists investigative personnel and prosecutors with grand jury and trial;
  • Testifying when required before a statewide, state or federal grand jury or trial jury and other proceedings as to information obtained, analyzed and for chain of custody of evidence; and
  • Providing training and guidance to less experienced crime intelligence analysts.

 

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience in criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis, or in a law enforcement agency can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  2. Any combination of education or experience, as described above.
  3. Completion of a 720-hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in law enforcement can substitute for one year of the required education.

Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of coursework from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of report writing techniques;
  • Knowledge of research and intelligence analysis techniques;
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques for effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and summarize criminal intelligence data and to determine the significance, completeness and usefulness of the data;
  • Ability to review large amounts of criminal intelligence data and to determine the significance, completeness and usefulness of the data;
  • Ability to write reports, investigative summaries and memoranda resulting from information analysis;
  • Ability to make independent decisions;
  • Ability to report information clearly, concisely and accurately, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

BASE SALARY:

Crime Intelligence Analyst I

$41,200 – Bachelor’s degree*

Crime Intelligence Analyst II

$44,290 – Bachelor’s degree* and one year of analytical** experience.

Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst I

$46,350 – Bachelor’s degree* and three years of analytical** experience.

Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst II

$55,620 – Bachelor’s degree* and five years of analytical** experience.

*A master’s degree in criminology, law enforcement intelligence analysis, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis or comparable discipline; or a professional certificate in one of these disciplines can substitute for one year of experience.

 

**Analytical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year- for-year basis. Analytical experience must be in the fields of: criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis, law enforcement agency (CIA I/CIA II) or investigative experience in a law enforcement agency (SCIA I/SCIA II).

  • This Crime Intelligence Analyst position is included in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement  Crime Intelligence Analyst Progression Plan . The plan provides professional development training and advancement opportunities to enhance FDLE’s investigative strategy and promote development within the crime analysis field.
