Position Description

Bridge Prep is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and strategic Assistant Principal of Specialized Instruction to help bring its mission to life. Reporting to the Principal, the Assistant Principal of Specialized Instruction works passionately to ensure that student data analysis and curriculum design and implementation are leveraged to optimize teacher performance, thus positively impacting student achievement. As a service-oriented leader, the Assistant Principal of Specialized Instruction dissects data trends, differentiates curriculum, and coaches teachers. At Bridge Prep, the Assistant Principal of Specialized Instruction is deeply committed to leading the school in mission-aligned instructional leadership, data analysis, and curriculum implementation.

Essential Functions

  • Mission-Aligned Instructional Leadership
    • Leads a group of instructional team members including but not limited to the Instructional Coaches, Speech Language Pathologist, Literacy Interventionist, and ENL Teacher.
    • Supports the Principal in building a shared understanding of the what and why behind the Science of Reading, its deep connection to our mission, and how it can be personalized and specialized at Bridge Prep.
    • Leads the instructional team in the understanding and implementation of effective pedagogical practices and strategies to ensure scaffolding, enrichment, and rigorous instruction is provided to all levels of learners daily.
    • Supports teachers in dissecting and understanding the research on reading and models instructional practices needed to apply that research into classroom lessons.  
    • Manages the Instructional Coaches to provide teachers with effective, granular feedback on implementation of the curriculum and best pedagogical practices.
    • Establishes schedules and structures that leverage the Speech Language Pathologist, Literacy Interventionist, and ENL Teacher to provide targeted instruction to students with needs related to oral language development, reading readiness, and developing English proficiency.
    • Supports the Principal in identifying and facilitating professional learning for members of the instructional team based on identified needs and schoolwide trends, inclusive of whole school sessions and grade-specific planning periods.
    • Supports the Principal in performing formal and informal classroom observations and uses data to provide guidance, feedback, and modifications needed to improve pedagogical practices in order to advance student academic achievement.
    • Collaborates with the Assistant Principal of Student Support in the monitoring and implementation of teacher feedback related to differentiation and best practices for students with learning differences.  
    • Frequently collaborates with the Principal, Assistant Principal of Operations and Assistant Principal of Student Support in logistical planning that will impact and improve teacher pedagogy, directing teachers towards appropriate training, reworking schedules and instructional blocks, and monitoring of implementation of curricula, practices, and schoolwide systems.  
  • Data Analysis
    • Collaborates with Principal to schedule and implement various schoolwide assessments, including baseline, midpoint, and end of year assessments, NWEA MAP Assessments, NYS Math and ELA exams, and reading readiness assessments.
    • Collaborates with the Principal in establishing school wide data goals, instructional strategies and accountability measures that support teachers in achieving their specific metrics at various points in the school year. 
    • Supports teachers in the use of various formative and summative assessments to determine student mastery of standards, using the school’s research based curricula. 
    • Uses various forms of data to track and evaluate:
      • Disaggregated student cohort data findings correlated to achievement and progress organized by subgroups for monthly and annual reporting.
      • Needed adjustments in teacher lesson internalization and implementation based on trends.
      • Recommendations regarding groupings, promotional decisions, and interventions.
      • Levels of success in achieving academic goals at the student, classroom and school level. 
    • Works with the Instructional Coaches to review all assessment data and identify responsive and proactive action plans for teachers that support improved instruction and academic outcomes. 
  • Curriculum Implementation
    • Reviews and revises school curriculum and programming as needed with the support of the Instructional Coaches.
    • Supervises, coordinates, and monitors all curricular areas to ensure implementation fidelity and adherence to the academic achievement goals of each curriculum area in support of the Principal’s goals and vision. 
    • Ensures a collaborative approach to curriculum refinement and revision during pre-service planning, common planning, and teacher observation conferences.
    • Supports the Principal in the establishment of guidelines and expectations for teachers to address accountability, alignment, and crosswalks between the school’s curriculum and practice to New York State standards and of Science of Reading.

Reporting: This is a full time position reporting to the Principal or his/her designee.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree is required
  • A valid Special Education Teaching Certification is required
  • At least three years of teaching experience with a track record of achievement in students with disabilities, English language learners, and struggling readers
  • At least three years experience leading, managing, and/or coaching a team of adults
  • The ability to deliver clear and effective feedback in various forms  
  • Project planning experience with proven ability to see large projects through to completion

Salary: Compensation is commensurate with experience, ranging from $100,000-$130,000 annually.
