Position Summary Overview We are seeking a
Shingles Inspector in our
Roofing Department who is responsible for
ensuring all roofing/shingle work meets company quality standards , specifications, and safety regulations before the home moves to the next stage of production. This role requires
excellent attention to detail , a
deep understanding of roofing installation , and the
ability to communicate clearly with crews to resolve quality issues immediately.
Key Responsibilities and Duties - Inspect shingle installation for proper layout, straight lines, correct overhang, secure fastening, and correct shingle overlap.
- Verify that the correct materials, fasteners, and underlayment are used for each job order.
- Check for proper flashing installation, ridge venting, and sealing .
- Ensure work areas are free from safety hazards before and after inspection.
- Document all inspections, noting deficiencies, and report to the roofing supervisor .
- Re-inspect any corrections or rework to verify compliance with standards.
- Communicate with crew leads to providing timely feedback and corrective instructions .
- Monitor crews’ adherence to PPE requirements and safety procedures .
- Work closely with quality control, supervisors, and other department inspectors to maintain production schedules while ensuring quality.
Skills - Ability to inspect and evaluate shingle/roof installations against specifications.
- Knowledge of roofing materials, tools, and methods .
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, production drawings, and measurement specifications .
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make quick, accurate decisions.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, walk on pitched roofs, lift up to 75 lbs., and work at heights safely .
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to give constructive feedback.
Required Qualifications - Minimum 2 years roofing, shingle installation, or roofing inspection experience .
- Comfortable working at heights of 6+ feet using safety harnesses
- Proven ability to effectively read a tape measure ensuring accurate marks and cuts.
- Physical strength and stamina to stand, walk, and lift for long periods of time.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work full scheduled shifts with overtime as required
Preferred Qualifications - Prior inspection or quality control experience in roofing or construction
- OSHA or safety training certifications .
- Construction/manufacturing experience .
Education - High school diploma or GED preferred .
- Additional technical or safety training preferred
Licenses/Certifications - OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (preferred)
Experience - Roofing, shingles, or related construction inspection – 2 years minimum .
- Quality inspection: Preferred but not required
