Description
Review and analyze residential and investment property appraisals for compliance with USPAP, AIR, and investor overlays.
Evaluate collateral on a variety of Non-QM products, including DSCR, bank statement, and investment property loans.
Identify inconsistencies, unsupported adjustments, and valuation risks in appraisal reports.
Recommend and document appropriate mitigants for valuation concerns.
Respond to appraisal reconsideration requests and guide resolution of property-related conditions.
Communicate effectively with underwriters, account managers, and appraisal management companies (AMCs).
Maintain a high standard of quality and turnaround time in all collateral reviews.
Stay current on industry changes, appraisal guidelines, and Non-QM product developments.
Provide mentorship and support to junior collateral underwriters when needed.
Participate in team meetings, calibration sessions, and ongoing training initiatives.
Requirements
4+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting with a concentration in appraisal/collateral review.
Proficient knowledge of USPAP, FNMA/FHLMC guidelines, and Non-QM lending practices.
Strong experience evaluating a range of property types including rural, unique, or complex appraisals.
Familiarity with LOS and appraisal platforms (e.g., Lending QB, Meridian Link, Encompass).
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
Clear and professional verbal and written communication abilities.
High attention to detail with a proactive risk management approach.
Ability to prioritize and manage high-volume workflows efficiently.
Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
