Job Description
Position Summary The School Safety Manager (SSM) is a mid-level leadership role responsible for supporting day-to-day safety operations across multiple school campuses. Reporting to the School Safety Director, the Safety Manager provides field supervision, operational guidance, and real-time response coordination to ensure the safety team operates with excellence, consistency, and professionalism. This position plays a critical role in mentoring School Safety Officers, resolving on-site concerns, and ensuring that safety procedures align with the school’s mission and culture.
Key Responsibilities - Field Supervision & Support: Provide direct, in-the-field oversight to School Safety Officers. Conduct site visits, observe post operations, and offer real-time coaching and support.
- Schedule Management & Staffing Coverage: Assist in managing daily shift schedules and personnel assignments. Fill coverage gaps when necessary and coordinate last-minute staffing changes to maintain continuous safety presence.
- Incident Support & Response Oversight: Serve as the initial escalation point for field incidents and emergencies. Provide live dispatch support when needed, assist with coordinating on-scene responses, and ensure incident protocols are followed.
- Officer Development & Mentorship: Serve as a mentor to School Safety Officers. Support onboarding for new hires, provide post-specific training, and model professional behavior and conduct.
- Compliance & Quality Control: Conduct routine performance checks and post inspections to ensure compliance with operational standards and post orders. Identify improvement areas and report concerns to the Lieutenant.
- Documentation & Reporting: Review and submit accurate incident reports, daily logs, and performance observations. Ensure timely and complete documentation of all relevant field activity.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Support positive working relationships with school staff and administration. Act as a liaison for campus-level concerns and provide timely communication to supervisors.
- Event Support & Site Preparation: Assist with planning and executing safety protocols for school events, assemblies, and extracurricular activities. Ensure all safety measures are in place and staff are properly deployed.
- Compensation: $23-$25 per hour
Required Qualifications - High school diploma or GED (required); coursework in Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Education, or Leadership (preferred)
- Valid Security Officer certification as required by state regulations
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a school safety, campus security, or similar role
- Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to guide others in a team setting
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proficiency in basic reporting systems and communication tools
- Knowledge of basic emergency procedures and safety best practices in a school environment

Work Environment - Primary presence across assigned school sites during school hours, with flexibility for events and emergencies
