Duties And Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates confidentiality and cultural humility in counseling practices with students, in groups and individually, and advocates for equitable and inclusive supports, especially for marginalized and/or underserved students.
  • Supports schoolwide wellness campaigns, mental health awareness activities, and proactive self-care initiatives for students and staff. Assists the Principal in being a liaison with Social Work Staff and works with supervising Social Workers and/or Wellness Coaches in helping the students.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and support staff to provide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for attendance and behavior, including talking circles to build relationships, encourage student voice, and promote emotional safety.
  • Participates in individualized early intervention strategies for students demonstrating disengagement, absenteeism, academic or behavioral concerns.
  • Coordinates with school teams in caseload management and student support triage to prioritize student needs and ensure follow-up on support plans and referrals. Serves as a liaison with Mental Health, Probation, Interagency Task Force and others.
  • Assists the Principal in working with the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), Turlock Unified School District (TUSD) and other local school districts in which students reside, and attends IEP meetings on a regular basis.
  • Engages in culturally-responsive family outreach to promote student well-being. Initiates and maintains close contact with families to strengthen home-school connections and share mental health resources. Coordinates services with county and community agencies.
  • Attends staff meetings weekly and participates in professional development related to school guidance counselor duties and school wide and agency trauma-informed practices.
  • Monitors and updates student transcripts and assigns coursework based on students’ individualized graduation plans.
  • Conducts required state and local assessments and consults with teachers on results.
  • Provides college/career counseling, dual enrollment and financial aid application support for college/vocational training and field trips based on student interests.
  • Issues work permits and monitors compliance with labor law restrictions.
  • Participates in program accreditation and compliance with state and federal requirements for low-income and underserved student populations.
  • Keeps detailed and timely documentation, with calendar and time sheet records of work performed under various cost centers and grant-funded activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Your Qualifications

Minimum

  • Master’s Degree eligible, pupil personnel credential eligible (authorization in school counseling.) May be enrolled in an approved counseling internship program concurrently.
  • Proof of credential authorizing pupil personnel services in school counseling issues through the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, State of California.
  • Meets all state required conditions of employment as set forth by Community Care Licensing for a licensed Community Care Facility; i.e. Fingerprint and Child Abuse Index Clearance, TB/Health Physical, valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record (Motor Vehicle Report)
  • Preferred: Familiarity with trauma-informed education, restorative practices, or alternative education settings.

  • Must be computer proficient and be able to work on a computer for up to 40 hours per week.
  • Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish/English
