Examination Process
The City of Des Plaines is partnering with the National Testing Network (NTN) for the Police Officer Eligibility Test. Testing can be completed remotely and on your schedule.
Deadline for Testing: December 5, 2024, by 4:00 p.m.
Testing must be completed before the deadline. Late tests will not be considered.
All candidates must adhere to NTN's testing protocols. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete application.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted directly through the City's website. Emailed or written applications will not be accepted.
Required Documents (submit by December 5, 2024, by 4:00 p.m.):
Copy of high school diploma or GED
Copy of valid driver's license (both sides)
Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship/residency
Valid POWER test card issued within six months prior to the background investigation

Minimum Qualifications:
U.S. resident.
High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver's license (Illinois license required by hire date).
Age 20 to under 35 as of the written exam date (exceptions for military service and certain prior police employment).
No felony convictions.
Residency in Illinois required by hire date.
Valid POWER test card issued within six months prior to background investigation.
Hiring Process:
Complete the online application.
Take the NTN examination.
Submit required documents by the deadline.
Final eligibility list established by the BFPC.
Background checks conducted, including:
Personal History Inquiry (PHI)
Fingerprint background check
Polygraph examination
Background interview with the BFPC.
Conditional offer made upon passing background checks.
Psychological interview.
Physical examination.
Start date established.
