Media Relations Internship

REPORTS TO: Communications Director

DURATION: School year or Summer Internship (10-16 weeks)

POSITION SUMMARY: Breakthrough Miami is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Media Relations Intern to join our team for the summer. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in media relations, public relations, and communications within a non-profit setting. The ideal candidate will be passionate about our mission and eager to contribute to our storytelling and outreach efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Media Outreach:Assist in the development and execution of media outreach strategies to promote Breakthrough Miami’s programs, events, and success stories.
  • Press Materials:Draft press releases, media advisories, and pitches to secure media coverage in local and national outlets.
  • Media Monitoring: Monitor and track media coverage, compile reports, and maintain a database of media contacts.
  • Social Media: Collaborate with the communications team to create engaging social media content highlighting Breakthrough Miami’s initiatives and achievements.
  • Content Creation:Support the creation of multimedia content, including videos, graphics, and photos, to enhance media relations efforts.
  • Media Contacts:Create and manage lists of media contacts and cultivate relationships with media sources

  • Research:Conduct research on media trends, journalists, and outlets to identify opportunities for increased visibility.

  • Administrative Tasks:Provide general administrative support to the communications team as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor’s program in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and databases is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design and video editing software is an advantage.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiastic about Breakthrough Miami’s mission and vision.
