HVAC & R Specialist

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced HVAC & R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, analyzing, repairing, and installing HVAC & R and Building Automation Systems (BAS) , including large and complex systems. The specialist will also lead specialty projects and ensure compliance with codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC & R and BAS systems, including large-scale and complex systems.
  
• Perform and oversee all preventive and routine maintenance on HVAC & R equipment.
  
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  
• Modify or create BAS programming to optimize system functions, add or remove equipment points, and collect data for analysis.
  
• Ensure compliance with industry codes, safety regulations, and facility standards.
  
• Manage work orders, change orders, emergency repairs, and HVAC & R projects.
  
• Assist in facility-wide energy efficiency initiatives and collaborate with other departments to complete projects efficiently.
  
• Document and maintain records, including blueprints, instruction manuals, and maintenance logs.
  
• Train and mentor team members, keeping them informed on technical updates and best practices.
  

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or trade school education in HVAC & R maintenance preferred.
  
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of HVAC & R experience in a commercial or healthcare environment.
  
• Certifications: EPA CFC Certification required.
  
• Licensure: Valid Virginia Driver’s License preferred for hospital positions and required for property maintenance roles.
  
• Skills:
  • Strong understanding of BAS programming and automated building controls .
    
  • Familiarity with commercial and healthcare HVAC & R codes and regulations.
    
  • Ability to use a computerized work order system and maintain detailed records.
    
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    

Additional Requirements:

• Designated “emergency personnel” during weather-related emergencies.
  
• May need to provide own general-purpose maintenance tools.
  
• Potential travel to multiple facility locations as needed.
