Job Classification: Firefighter/Paramedic
The City of Fairfield is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. All candidates must submit a department application, located here, and take the FireTEAM test through National Testing Network to be considered in this process.
Applications will be accepted beginning Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Deadline for submitting applications is Wednesday, March 19, 2025, by 11:59pm. No exceptions.
Following the application deadline, the Ranking List will be approved at the next regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission, which is held on the second Thursday of each month.
In the event of a tie score after credits for seniority/paramedic certification are added to the passing written exam score, priority in ranking is determined by the date and time the application is received.
Applicants for examinations for original appointment to the Fire Department as a Firefighter- Paramedic must have attained the age of eighteen (18) on or prior to the date of examination and no person shall be eligible to receive an original appointment as such on or after his/her thirty-sixth (36th) birthday. The City will accept full-time appointments to the Fire Department for persons up to age 41 who are currently full-time Firefighter/Paramedics with another department and currently members of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.
Currently offering a $5,000 sign on bonus to eligible candidates! To be eligible, candidates must submit proof of Ohio Paramedic and Ohio Firefighter II certification by date of their test. The $5,000 sign on bonus will be paid upon successful completion of the probationary period. Those submitting proof of Ohio Paramedic certification will also be eligible to receive a 10% credit added to their passing NTN scores on the Eligibility List.
Current part-time Firefighter/EMT employees of the City of Fairfield will have additional credit added to their passing score, based on years of service.
Salary Range: $23.00 = $36.25 Hourly ($62,192 to $98,020 annually D.O.Q. and years of service) Department Overview: The Fire Department staff, consisting of 57 career firefighters, the Chief and three Deputy Chiefs, with support from part-time staff members, provide excellent around the clock service from three locations. Job Requirements
Age: 18 years old at time of test and not eligible for original appointment to Fairfield Department on or after age 36. High School Grad/GED: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Valid OHIO Driver's License: Yes
Academy Certification: Candidates must possess certification for Firefighter II and a minimum of EMT-B, Paramedic certification preferred.
Position Description: This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks related to protecting life and property by performing fire suppression and providing emergency medical services; participating in fire station and equipment maintenance; engaging in training and exercise programs as directed; and other related tasks as required.


Candidates must maintain the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.


Residency: Within one year of employment, employees shall reside anywhere within Butler County, Hamilton County or any contiguous county thereto.


Probation Period: 1 year
