Chatham Bars Inn Farm is an 8-acre working farm in Brewster, MA which produces well over 100,000 pounds and 125 varieties of vegetables each year, most of which is used by the culinary team at Chatham Bars Inn. The Farm features innovative farming techniques such as hydroponics and Slovenian beekeeping and also offers a seasonal Farm Stand open to the public and weekly farm-to-table outdoor dinners. The farm is a part of Chatham Bars Inn, a Forbes Travel Guide Five Star Hotel on Cape Cod, Massachusetts with 25 oceanfront acres, 217 rooms and suites, five restaurants, boating, a private beach, full-service spa and endless recreation activities. The responsibilities of the Farm Manager include but are not limited to managing and coordinating all farming operations, determining which crops to plant, the quantities, planting and harvesting schedules, and operating the nursery and retail aspects of the farm. The Farm Manager will be responsible for the research and providing of farm grown vegetables and fresh fruit for Chatham Bars Inn and will work closely the Director of Grounds to develop strategies for planning and long-term farm growth. Additional Responsibilities: Marketing the farm’s products Creating, monitoring, and operating the farm’s budget Hiring, training, scheduling and monitoring all staff and labor costs Ensuring that farm activities comply with government regulations Maintaining a knowledge of pests, diseases, and understanding how to avoid and or treat them Applying health and safety standards across the farm Purchasing and regular maintenance on all supplies and machinery Maintenance and preventative maintenance of all facilities, machinery and equipment Supervising the maintenance of the irrigation systems Review organic pesticide recommendations and applications, herbicide applications, and year round insect and rodent controls. Working closely with the Chef’s at Chatham Bars Inn to plan weekly harvest schedule Assist with delivery of produce to Chatham Bars Inn and other outlets Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in related field (Agriculture, Horticulture, etc) Proven experience in farming management is necessary, minimum of 3 years Deep passion and commitment to organic growth Must have organic soil-building and composting experience Superior time management necessary Basic accounting knowledge (sales receipts, purchasing, budgeting, labor costs, inventory, etc) Must be a hands-on farm manager Experience in greenhouse and nursery management, plant propagation Knowledge of landscape and irrigation systems Experience in pesticide methods, management and application procedures Knowledge of plan, flowers, and produce nutrition Knowledge of plant, flowers, and produce classifications and their requirements Physically able to bend, stand, walk, and pull for long periods of time and lift-up to 50lbs repeatedly Must have a valid driver’s license Must flexible with schedules working weekends and holidays may be required Certified in CPR
