As an Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory) you will have the opportunity to:

• Oversee and provide direction to scientific and professional supervisors in the Regulations and Policy Branch, in order to implement and enforce the SCP regulations
• Implement the requirements of statutorily mandated toxics-in-products restrictions or bans on specific chemicals and/or products in California; to implement project management best practices for the SCP program, so that projects are optimized according to workload standards and deadlines are met
• Communicate SCP activities, status, and accomplishments in an effective manner, using innovative communication and outreach strategies to reach a diverse audience
• Direct market research and innovative data collection approaches using advanced data collection, analysis, and visualization tools
• Manage resources, budget, procurement, and staffing to support program implementation Ensure the Regulations and Policy Branch units provide critical services and support for all aspects of the SCP Program; specifically, communications, policy and rulemaking, market research, and operational services

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:

• Experience with designing and implementing strategies to protect health and the environment
• Experience implementing regulations, developing rulemaking, and analyzing policies
• Clear communicator, with experience translating complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences
• Experience integrating principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism in your work
• Prior state supervisory/management experience is preferred, but not required

Statement of Qualification (SOQ) Instructions

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required for the hiring manager’s review. Applications submitted without an SOQ may be disqualified.

Responses must be no longer than two pages, double spaced and 12- point Arial font. (Each response will be evaluated for completeness, clarity, and grammatical correctness).

Your SOQ should address the following:

1. Describe your leadership and/or supervisorial strengths and experiences, with an emphasis on leading scientific and/or engineering teams to effectively achieve specific goals and outcomes.

2. Describe your experience:

• Translating science into policy
• With portfolio management, tracking multiple projects and ensuring team accountability and productivity
• Communicating complex scientific concepts to the public
